About

Dr. Norman Rose has extensive academic and professional experience in both sociology and corrections. Rose brings his unique combination of academic and real world experiences to university classrooms, where he has taught in 15 different colleges and universities. His teaching specialties include introduction to sociology, social problems, social inequality, researching society, culture, mass media, criminology, justice studies, corrections, crisis intervention and treatment methods in corrections, comparative justice systems, and homeland security.

Dr. Rose's professional career in corrections includes assignments as a warden in three Ohio prisons, working as a resident supervisor in a community-based correctional facility, and serving as an international corrections trainer for 15 months in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan.

During his career in corrections, Dr. Rose was elected to and served as President of both the Correctional Education Association of Ohio and the Ohio Correctional and Court Services Association. He was certified by the American Correctional Association as a prison auditor, and by the U.S. Department of Justice as an auditor for the Prison Rape Elimination Act. He was honored to receive teacher of the year recognition for his contributions to developing prison rehabilitation programs. With family roots in Southeast Kentucky and Cincinnati, Dr. Rose is a long-time member of the Urban Appalachian Coalition and has published studies related to Appalachian culture. His latest publication, A Career in Corrections: Experiences and Perspectives, represents an exceptional contribution to critical criminology.
