Temporary permits are available for purchase by students, employees, and at the department level. They are not intended to replace regular permits and can only be used for short durations.
Temporary permits are scratch-off permits. Once you purchase a permit, you'll scratch off the month, day, year, and hang it from your rearview mirror; the permit is valid for a 24hr period from the date it was scratched off starting at 7am (regardless of the actual time you scratch off). If a second date is scratched off, even in error, the permit is invalid.
Example: Today's date is August 25th and it's 11:20am when you use the permit. You scratch off [AUG]  . The permit is valid from August 25th 7am through August 26th 7am.
Example: Today's date is September 2nd and it's 7:30am. You bought the permit yesterday and scratched off [SEP]  . The permit was valid overnight, but it expired at 7am. You either need to move your car to free/paid city parking OR scratch off a new permit hangtag using [SEP]  .
If you only intend to be on campus for a few hours during the daytime, we recommend you use one of our free visitor lots, but please note that visitor lots do not allow for overnight parking. Admission's visitor spaces, clearly marked in the Edwards Lot, are restricted to invited guests only.
Students may purchase Student Temp Permits that are valid in Student North or Student South parking spaces. Permits are $2 per day. It can be used by students who need to temporarily use a different car (e.g. your car is at a mechanics shop for a couple of days) or if you want to have a non-OWU guest (following all Residential Life guidelines for visitors), park on campus.
If you will be driving a different vehicle for an extended period of time, please contact email@example.com for instructions on how to switch your permit registration for free. Note that you will need to remove your current permit sticker and place it on the new vehicle for the duration of the substituted vehicles use.
You may purchase up to ten temporary permits at a time that you can use throughout the year or even hold on to for the next academic year. The payment process system will allow you to edit the quantity of the permits for purchase after you add a second item to the cart. Current scratch off permits are valid from 2023-2025.
Misuse of a temporary parking permit may result in parking citations and/or referral to Student Integrity and Community Standards.
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff may purchase General Temp Permits* that are valid in any E space or student space, including commuter lots. Permits are $2 per day. You may purchase up to ten temporary permits at a time that you can use throughout the year or even hold on to for the next academic year. The payment process system will allow you to edit the quantity of the permits for purchase after you add a second item to the cart. Current scratch off permits are valid from 2023-2025.
*Department administrators may purchase temporary permits in bulk at a 50% discount rate and follow a different purchase process. This option may be preferred if your department routinely hosts guest speakers, researchers, etc. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line [Your Department Name] Bulk Purchase - Temporary Permits.

- Temporary permits are not valid for use in restricted spaces, ADA handicap spaces, fire lanes, or Admissions visitor spaces.
- Citations may be issued for illegal parking.
- General Temp Permits may not be purchased by faculty or staff and issued to students.
