One etude by Popper, Du Port, Klengel, or similar study.

A short piece or a movement of a sonata.

One movement from any Bach solo suite.

A movement from any concerto in the standard repertoire.


DOUBLE BASS

Major and minor scales and arpeggios in two octaves.

One etude by Simandl, Hrabe, Storch, Rabbath, or similar study.

A short piece or movement of a sonata.

In addition to the above, candidates must perform:

One movement from any Bach solo cello suite or gamba sonata.

A movement from any concerto in the standard repertoire.

GUITAR

(Classical Emphasis – minor)

Major and minor scales in two octaves.

Two contrasting movements of pieces from the solo repertoire that demonstrate the student’s current performance level. The following pieces are suggested: Milan 6 Pavanas; Bach Prelude in D Minor, BWV 999 or Bouree in E Minor, BWV 996; Guiliani Allegro Vivace, Op. 111, Part 2; Sor Twenty Studies; Tarrega Adelita; Villa-Lobos Preludes and Etudes.


(Jazz Emphasis – minor)

Major and minor scales in two octaves.

Perform the melody, improvise, and comp the chord changes to two contrasting jazz composition (those auditioning should provide their own play-along recording). It is recommended that one selection be a 12-Bar Blues piece (i.e. Billie’s Bounce). The following pieces are suggested:

Autumn Leaves, Blue Bossa, All Blues, My Funny Valentine, Summertime, Take the “A” Train, or Green Dolphin Street.

Sight reading, including chord changes in swing and Latin styles.
