The Dance minor grounds students not in just the study of physical practice, but also in thinking critically about the intersections of dance with cultural studies, movement theory, and history.
Five units: one unit of theory (MUS 110 and 155, plus either MUS 156 or 165); MUS 105 or 109; one unit selected from upper-level history courses (MUS 347, 348, 349, 357, 358, or 359); and two more units chosen from among academic courses, applied study, ensembles. The declaration for a minor may be submitted upon completion of two units of music study. Courses taken credit/no entry may not be applied to the music minor.
Five units: six semesters of applied lessons (applied lesson fee waived) and a large ensemble (Choral Art Society, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, or Chamber Orchestra, depending on the applied area); one unit of music theory (MUS 110 and 155, plus either MUS 156 or 165); and one unit of elective music study.
Five courses in Theatre and Dance, four of which must be in Theatre. Up to one unit of practicum courses may be applied to the minor. You are expected to be active in the department.
