In Pamplona, students will spend a semester at one of Spain’s prestigious universities, the University of Navarra. The University of Navarra is a private institution, number one overall in educational innovation and number three in Europe, after Oxford and Cambridge, in teaching quality (Times Higher Education Ranking 2019). Through this study abroad program, students will have the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses in Spanish through the ILCE program (Instituto de Lengua y Cultura Españolas).

The program offers courses on communication and culture in Spanish, Language Literature, Cinema, History, Art, Academic Writing, Culture, Linguistics, Language for the Professions, Civic and Service learning courses in the "Transformative Experience track", and expertise in new technologies through Digital Storytelling courses. These courses constitute the core for the ILCE Hispanic Studies Major and Minor (Diploma de Estudios Hispánicos). Students can also enhance their Spanish communication skills and acquire hands-on workplace experience through their internship program. At the Universidad de Navarra, students can also take up to two courses in other field areas (in English or Spanish).

Living in Pamplona

Pamplona is a small medium-size city (population: 300,000). It has a local airport with direct daily flights to Madrid and Frankfurt (Germany). Very well connected by rapid trains (ALVIA) to Madrid, Barcelona and other cities. It is also close to the other four major Spanish cities: San Sebastián, Vitoria, Logroño, and Zaragoza. The size of the city, and its vibrant life makes it particularly attractive for students to immerse in the local culture and community, which can make a world of difference for incoming international students who are learning Spanish.

Students can choose to live in the student dorms or with a host family. Families are carefully selected by the ILCE. Students are accommodated on a full board basis every day of the week, in a single room fully furnished and with Internet access.
