About

An active performer, pianist Youmee Kim has appeared in more than 170 professional performances across recitals, concert series, festivals, and conferences in Canada, Serbia, Austria, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the United States. She received high praise at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall). She can be heard on a solo piano CD titled 'Journey to America: American Contemporary Piano Music' (Centaur Records 3631, 2017), which critics describe as '…wonderfully articulated, terrific, magnificent… fiery playing and delicate touch..." (American Record Guide, Fanfare Magazine). As an active chamber pianist, Dr. Kim has also recorded 'Clarinet and Piano Fantasies' with Rebecca Rischin (Centaur 3538, 2017), 'Ars Nostra: Persona,' a piano duo with S. Lee (Centaur 3343, 2014), and 'Samplings, New Recordings for the Bassoon and Piano' with M. Morris (MSR, 2015).

An active scholar and specialist in contemporary piano music, she authored the book 'An Analysis and Performance Guide to Benjamin Lees' Odyssey I and II' (VDM Verlag, Germany, 2008). She is frequently invited to present contemporary music, including delivering a keynote at Seoul National University of Education's Brain Pool conference in South Korea and premiering new piano works such as Perino's Piano Sonata n.2 in NYC. Recently, she held a concert featuring an electronic device titled 'Youmee Kim & Electronic Friends,' and was also invited to perform at the Spring Performing Series hosted by the Ruthmere Foundation.

A dedicated teacher, Dr. Kim has over 20 years of college-level teaching experience with an outstanding record and has served as a judge at national piano competitions such as La Pianista International Piano Competition, World Piano Teachers Associations International Competition, Columbus Symphony Young Musicians' Competition, and the Robert B. Beardsley Piano Prize Competition.

Dr. Kim earned degrees from Ewha Womans University in Korea (BM), Indiana University (MM and Performer Diploma), and Ohio State University (DMA) in piano performance, where she served as a Graduate Teaching Associate. Currently, she is a piano faculty member at Ohio Wesleyan University, and before joining OWU, she worked at Ohio University and Wright State University.
