Auto liability insurance
General liability insurance

Property insurance
Time is of the Essence
Following any accident or incident of theft or property damage, file an Incident Report with OWU Public Safety as soon as possible.
In addition, make sure to report all incidents (as well as potential claims) to the Office of Risk Management and Insurance.
The University maintains commercial automobile liability insurance coverage on University-owned and hired vehicles (rental cars).
Since OWU maintains physical damage coverage on hired vehicles, the University recommends that you decline the collision damage and liability waiver when leasing a car (except while abroad).
The University does not provide insurance coverage for personal vehicles used by employees, students, or volunteers. It expects the individual's personal auto insurance policy to cover any incidents.
Additionally, there is no insurance coverage against theft of personal items from vehicles.
Ohio Wesleyan University maintains general liability coverage that includes:
This coverage includes protection against any type of direct physical loss or damage to University buildings or other property, subject to certain exclusions specified in the policy. This coverage has a $100,000 deductible, which means the University self-insures for all losses less than the deductible amount. The University takes no responsibility for the loss of or damage to personal property of employees or students. It is expected that these items are insured through the individual's home insurance policy.
All electronic data processing equipment listed on the fixed asset inventory system is insured against all risks of direct physical loss or damage. This includes software and off-campus equipment used for official University business.
Ohio Wesleyan University maintains coverage against risks of physical loss or damage to property in the care, custody, or control of the University for exhibitions that are brought to campus.
With proper department approval and notification, exhibitions can be insured. Both the exhibitor and the sponsoring department share the responsibility of taking adequate security measures when displaying works of art. The department should advise the exhibitor of any potential risk in displaying works of art in open, unmonitored areas.
The department must provide the Risk management office with a complete list of the works of art to be exhibited and insured so that they may be added to the university's insurance policy for the time period that they are on loan. The sponsoring department, not the University, will be responsible for any deductibles and uninsured losses.
Ohio Wesleyan University maintains coverage on all fine arts articles owned by the University or others that are in the care, custody, or control of the University. This coverage provides protection against direct physical loss as well as protection for newly acquired property.
Coverage extends only to those items listed in the fixed asset inventory system. Note that all items on loan must be on file in the inventory system.
It is imperative to report works of art to the Risk Management office. Otherwise, any loss will be uninsured, and the assessment for the loss will fall on the responsible department or office.
Ohio Wesleyan University maintains coverage on all musical instruments owned by the University or others that are in the care, custody, or control of the University. This coverage provides protection against direct physical loss.
Coverage extends only to those items listed in the fixed asset inventory system. It is imperative to report all musical instruments (including those on loan) to the Risk Management office. Otherwise, any loss will be uninsured, and the assessment for the loss will fall on the responsible department or office.
