NEW FOR FALL 2020 - Ohio Wesleyan's new major in Quantitative Economics combines study in economics and mathematics to create a rigorous STEM program. You develop skills and insight valuable in the financial industry, business, and government, as well as graduate school.

About the major

Quantitative economics prepares you to analyze economic issues, explore theories, and predict future conditions using statistical procedures and mathematical models. The major incorporates a balance of economic theory, mathematical tools, and field applications, while emphasizing the development of analytical skills.

You complete three sets of requirements for the major:

  • Economic theory courses that provide the tools needed for analyzing economic issues.
  • Mathematics, statistics, and computer science courses that provide the skills needed for understanding economic theory and analyzing data.
  • Field courses that apply economic tools to business, social, or specialized areas.

You also complete a quantitative capstone experience to explore an issue more deeply, gaining valuable hands-on research and analysis experience.

Liz Knowlton '19

After graduating, Liz was hired as an analyst at JP Morgan Chase in Columbus, Ohio. While at OWU, she participated in a Travel-Learning Course to Mexico, had an internship with the Woltemade Center, and launched her own candy company.
