Tutoring at the college level may differ from any past tutoring experiences you may have. Please review the following list to gain an understanding of what you can expect from your tutor, as well as what your tutor will expect from you.

The Tutor has the right to expect that: 

  • Tutee will be punctual for meetings

  • Tutee will come to the sessions prepared

  • Tutee will come to sessions ready to learn

  • Tutee will bring all necessary materials to meetings

  • Tutee should have at least attempted homework or begun assignments 

  • Tutee will attend class and will not use tutoring as a substitute for classroom learning

  • Tutor may ask tutee to take notes during tutoring sessions 

  • Tutee will stick to the tutor's schedule and not expect additional time or topics 

  • Tutor will be treated with dignity and respect

  • Tutor can terminate the meeting if they deem it necessary

  • Tutor may contact the tutee's professor (if this is agreed upon by both the tutor and tutee)

  • Tutor may evaluate the tutoring process and session

  • Tutor may take initiative and schedule future meetings

  • Tutee will provide notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to the meeting if needed

The Tutee has the right to expect that:

  • Tutor will be punctual for meetings

  • Tutor will come to the session prepared

  • Tutor will work hard

  • Tutor will be courteous and professional

  • Tutor will be a good role model

  • Tutor will respect the tutee's confidentiality

  • Tutee may request a different tutor, if one is available

  • A tutor will be able to meet with the tutee at least one time a week

  • Meetings will be held in a comfortable, public environment

  • Tutee will feel free to ask questions and receive clarifications on any questions

  • Tutee will be treated with dignity and respect

  • Tutee can terminate the meeting if they deem it necessary

  • Tutee has the final say on all work submitted to the professor

  • Tutee may evaluate the tutoring process and session

  • Tutor will provide notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to the meeting if needed, unless there's a valid excuse (such as illness)
