Introduction to the Department

The Music Department has been a vital part of the Ohio Wesleyan community for over 150 years. In the Department of Music, talented and experienced faculty will inspire you to develop your unique musicianship without having the distraction of constant competition you would find at conservatories. And you’ll enjoy outstanding facilities and numerous performing opportunities.

Rachel Ballitch ’18, first place winner in the prestigious Senior Women Division of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition, is accompanied by OWU faculty member Mariko Kaneda on piano as she performs "Ave Maria" (Gounod) in this holiday greeting from Rock and Melissa Jones.

We offer a professional Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in music that allows many students to double major in another discipline. Non-majors are welcome and encouraged to participate in OWU’s many vocal or instrumental ensembles.
