OHIO MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE - 2027

Effective January 1, 2027, Ohio's minimum wage will increase to $11.40 per hour.

• Student employees earning below $11.40 per hour will have their pay rates automatically adjusted.

• No action is needed from supervisors.

Process for hiring student workers

Step 1: Find Student Workers

• Job Posting
• Review Applications
• Interview Students

Step 2: Hire Students  

• Verify Federal Work Study (preferred) or Institutional Funds (department funds)
• Student Appointment Notice

Step 3: Verify Student Work Eligibility

• Supervisor will receive notice from HR that the student has completed all required onboarding and they are eligible to begin working.
• Verification should be received by supervisor PRIOR to scheduling student for work.

Note;  returning students who have worked on campus prior do not need to complete onboarding or I-9 again.
