Scholarships and grants are available to those interested in Summer Study Away opportunities. Check out the options below to help off-set the cost of summer programs.

Scholarships

There are many institutional and external scholarship options for summer study away. Some scholarships are for students with specific interest and backgrounds:

  • OWU Schott Summer Study Abroad Scholarship: available to members of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity majoring in Business
  • Horsfall Scholarship: Available to History majors
  • OWU West Summer Study Abroad Scholarship: Need-based, determined by Pell-grant elibility (though it separate from receiving a pell-grant or a Gilman Scholarship)
  • Rice Scholarship: Available to students doing research at a summer field station as part of their study abroad experience. Applications due early April each year.

In addition to OWU endowed scholarships, many of our international partners also offer both need and merit-based awards. Be sure to pay attention to any scholarships offered through your program sponsor and their application deadlines.

Pell-Grant Award

Students receiving a Pell grant during the school semester may qualify to some grant money for their summer study abroad. If you are unsure as to whether you receive the Pell Grant, check your financial aid package through the Self-Service Portal or by contacting the Financial Aid office. How much Pell award money you will receive is determined by the Financial Aid Office after reviewing the cost of your study abroad program and how many classes you are taking while abroad. Do not assume that your summer award amount will be the same as your semester award amount.

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship:

Students receiving Pell Grants may also apply for the US Federal Gilman scholarship program. Check out this video which walks you through applying for the Gilman.

OWU Connection Grant

OWU Connection grants are funded by generous donors to help students design and execute personalized and impactful OWU Connection experiences. These grants are intended to close financial gaps and remove as many barriers as possible to participate in your OWU Connection experience. Specifically, an OWU Connection Grant can go towards covering your out of pocket expenses related to summer or semester study away (most notably, the costs of international travel). Visit their website for more information and to apply.

Baran Fellowship:

Having benefited from strong mentorship at Ohio Wesleyan University, Jan W. Baran '70 created a fund to support and encourage students engaging in educational experiences that will better prepare them for education at the next level after they graduate from Ohio Wesleyan University. Study abroad is one of these expereinces and students pursuing study abroad are encouraged to apply. Visit the Baran Fellowship page for elibility and more information.
