This $500 cash award is made available from the Woltemade Prize Fund, created in 1998 to honor Uwe Woltemade's legacy of service to Ohio Wesleyan University. The prize recognizes a student who is "international" in some aspect. This designation includes both international students and U.S. students with international experience, study, research, or other activity.

Candidates for the Woltemade Prize must be juniors or seniors with a concentration in comparative and/or international studies.

They also must exhibit:

  • Academic excellence and departmental honors
  • Superior writing ability
  • Foreign language ability

Students are nominated by faculty based on their GPA and international expertise.  A minimum GPA of 3.5 is usually required.
